I have always been into putting big engines
in small cars. In 1972 I had a 1971 Pinto with a 302 V8 and then a
string of Vegas. My first Vega was in 1974 it was a 1972 NotchBack
with a 1971 Corvette 350 and 3-speed.
The next
Vega in 1975 was a 1972 Vega Panel with another 1971 Corvette 350 and 4-speed
then in 1978 another 1972 Vega Panel with a 65' Corvette 425 HP 396
and 4-speed.
My last Vega in 1985 was a 1974 GT Hatch Back with a 350 and 4-speed.
Then in 1986 I got a 1976 Monza Spider which had a 305 that I removed
and installed a 350. In
1990 I built a Triumph GT6 with a 468 CID Big Block Chevrolet and
4-speed. So
you can see I like small cars with big engines.
This project was in desperation as I had bought a 1987 Honda CRX to
put a 396 big block Chevrolet in but there was not enough
space between the door and rear bumper cover to put the wheel tubs
and if I was able to fit the wheel tubs in I had no idea where I
could put the battery and fuel tank. the rear frame rails would have
been less than 20 inches wide. So my luck changed when a good friend
came by the shop one day towing this Plymouth and asked if I wanted
it, he only wanted the transmission and I could have the body.
All these cars I have built were daily drivers and only one of
the Vegas ever saw
a drag strip that was my second Vega with a total cost of $1600.00
(sixteen hundred) went 11.25 @ 125 MPH.
